Meet Our Psychologists
The heart of any psychology service is the people who provide it. At Lochend, you're in experienced, compassionate hands.
Dr. Christine Knight, R.Psych. Registered Clinical Psychologist & Clinical Neuropsychologist
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Christine Knight brings a rare depth of knowledge, warmth, and dedication to her work. She supports adult and older adult clients through a wide range of challenges — from mental health concerns like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and grief, to complex medical conditions such as cancer, stroke, and chronic pain, as well as cognitive difficulties including traumatic brain injury and dementia.
Originally from Montreal, Dr. Knight's academic journey took her from McGill University through the University of Waterloo and on to a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Lakehead University. She arrived in Calgary in 2005 thinking it might be a short chapter — but twenty years, a husband, and four children later, she is very much at home here. That sense of community and rootedness shows up in everything she does.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Knight holds an appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary, where she is actively involved in mentoring and training the next generation of psychologists.
At Lochend, Dr. Knight offers both psychotherapy and psychological/neuropsychological assessment, specializing in:
Trauma & PTSD
Anxiety & depression
Grief & life transitions
Insomnia & chronic pain
Cognitive decline & neuropsychological assessment
Support for family members and caregivers navigating Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia
If you or a loved one is facing some of life's most difficult terrain — whether that's a mental health struggle, a medical journey, or the complex emotions of watching a family member change — Dr. Knight offers a steady, knowledgeable, and deeply human presence to walk alongside you.
Kingman Chan, Psychologist "Be Like Water"
Kingman Chan's approach to psychology is guided by a philosophy as simple as it is profound: Be Like Water. Water doesn't force its way forward — it adapts, flows, gathers strength when it needs to, and finds its path. Kingman brings this same fluid, patient wisdom to every client he works with, helping you see who you are, accept where you are, and discover where you're meant to go.
Kingman's own path to psychology was anything but conventional — and that's exactly what makes him exceptional. His first degree was in Biomedical Engineering, and he spent 12 years building a successful career in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Stable and respected as that life was, there was a persistent inner voice he couldn't ignore. So he listened to it. He stepped away from the corporate world, backpacked through Australia, and found the clarity he'd been searching for: his true calling was to help people on a deeper level.
He went back to school, dedicated himself entirely to this new path, and now — with another 12 years of psychology experience behind him — Kingman brings both the analytical precision of a scientist and the open heart of someone who has genuinely walked his own journey of self-discovery. That rare blend of Eastern and Western perspectives, lived experience, and professional expertise makes his work deeply resonant for clients from all walks of life.
Kingman doesn't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person is different, and your sessions will be thoughtfully tailored using:
Person-Centered Therapy — a space where you are truly heard and never judged
Psychodynamic Therapy — to understand how your past may be colouring your present
Mindfulness — to help you find calm within the stress of everyday life
EMDR & ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) — to gently process heavy memories so they stop holding you back
Whether you're navigating anxiety, life transitions, past trauma, or simply that quiet sense that something needs to shift, Kingman meets you with curiosity, compassion, and the steady belief that — like water — you already have everything you need to move forward.
We're Here for the Messy, Real Stuff
You don't have to keep pushing through alone.
Sometimes life gets heavy. The worry that won't quiet down, the exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, the feeling that you're holding it all together but only just. If any of that sounds familiar, you're in the right place.
Life doesn't always come with neat answers, and you don't need to arrive with the right words or a perfectly explained problem. Our psychologists meet you exactly where you are.
Psychology at Lochend can support you through:
Anxiety & worry — persistent overthinking, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety
Stress & burnout — emotional exhaustion, overwhelm, decision fatigue
Low mood & depression — loss of motivation, disconnection, grief, irritability
Trauma & its ripple effects — hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, sleep disruption, shutdown
Big life transitions — relationship changes, identity shifts, career stress, relocation
Self-worth & inner confidence — breaking free from people-pleasing, perfectionism, and your inner critic
Relationship challenges — communication, boundaries, conflict, attachment patterns
Sleep difficulties rooted in stress and nervous system activation
Cognitive concerns & neuropsychological assessment — memory changes, brain injury, dementia support
What Your First Session Looks Like
We know that taking the first step can feel like the hardest part. So here's what you can expect:
Your first session is relaxed and guided — your psychologist leads the conversation, so you never have to worry about what to say or where to start. Together, you'll explore what's been feeling hard, a little of your background and history, and what you'd like to feel differently. By the end, you'll leave with a clearer sense of direction and some practical tools you can start using straight away.
Think of it less like being assessed, and more like being truly heard — perhaps for the first time in a while.
A Whole-Person Approach
What makes Lochend a little different is that you're not just a psychology appointment here — you're a whole person. As part of our health collective, psychology sits alongside osteopathy, acupuncture, massage therapy, reiki, and mediumship, meaning that if it ever feels right, your care can gently connect across disciplines.
Mind and body are never really separate, and at Lochend, we treat them that way.
Grounded in Evidence, Tailored to You
Our psychology support is evidence-informed and deeply personal. Your practitioners will work with you at your pace, honouring your culture, identity, values, and lived experience. Sessions are collaborative and practical — focused on real strategies you can use in real life.
You may work on things like:
Calming an overactive nervous system
Shifting unhelpful thought patterns
Building emotional resilience
Strengthening communication and boundaries
Recovering a sense of self you may have lost along the way
A Few Common Questions
Do I need a referral? In most cases, no. You can book directly. If you're using insurance, it's worth checking whether your plan requires a physician referral for reimbursement.
How many sessions will I need? Everyone's journey is different. Some people find real relief in just a few sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. After your first appointment, your psychologist can suggest a plan that fits your needs and goals.
Is everything I share confidential? Yes — confidentiality is a cornerstone of psychology practice. Your psychologist will walk you through any exceptions clearly and transparently in your first session, so you always know where you stand.
Can psychology help with sleep? Absolutely. When sleep difficulties are connected to stress, rumination, or nervous system dysregulation — which they often are — psychology can be genuinely transformative.
I'm not sure I'm "bad enough" to need support. Is that okay? More than okay. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. If something is getting in the way of you feeling well and living fully, that's reason enough.
Do you offer neuropsychological assessments? Yes. Dr. Knight offers comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments for adults and older adults, including assessments for cognitive decline, traumatic brain injury, and dementia-related conditions.
