Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are more frequent in the afternoon, after a stressful day or a poor position at work. Headaches come in many forms, pain behind the eyes, pain top of the head, pain in the temples or pain at the base of the skull and can last from hours to days. Tension headaches are temporarily treated with pain relief drugs. However, longer relief can be found by reducing the inflammation in the neck and reducing the tension in the muscles of the shoulders and neck by rebalancing the shoulders to a level position.

What are some causes of tension headaches:

Having a bad computer setup; prolonged computer mouse usage often leads to a right shoulder being higher than the left. This contributes to tension in the neck and a shoulder rotation which could present as a tension headache. The cause of a tension headache are the tight muscles in the neck pulling on the base of the head or spine and referring pain into the head.

Poor sleeping position can create spasms in the neck and shoulders exasperating muscle tightness and tension headaches. Finding the right pillow and mattress can alleviate a lot of headache and improve your sleep quality.

Dehydration causes muscles to contract. Rehydrate to help your body muscles to heal and release tight muscles. Rehydration can dramatically improve cramp and tension relief if mixed with a magnesium supplement. However, calcium supplements help contract muscles and can be the cause of extra muscle tension.
